Seasonal specialist retail on our own platform

samen.de is an online shop for seeds and garden supplies, and our practical lab at the same time. We run it ourselves, keep developing it, and put things into practice here first, before we ever recommend them to clients.

The foundation is Shopware 5 with our own theme and around 50 custom-built plugins that shape the platform precisely around the requirements of seed retail: a planting calendar on every product page, a colour classification for seeds, organic certification with EU and German organic logos, GHS hazard labelling, and a data model with more than 600 custom attributes per product.

Content is the second centrepiece. A complete blog system with a REST API and tag filtering, 32 seasonal shopping worlds with monthly variants, and a guide section that answers practically every question about the range, from sowing through to harvest, an editorial library that few specialist retailers ever build.

Behind the scenes, supplier automations run for the biggest partners, an IndexNow connection keeps search engines updated fast, and image and article APIs with a locking mechanism allow ETL pipelines without bringing Shopware to its knees.

The result is a shop that grows noticeably year after year, because the architecture is cut precisely to fit the industry.
