Promotional material is our term for a pharma manufacturer's brochures, pens, posters, displays and other items to promote or inform, requested by its sales staff, medical practices or pharmacies.
In our projects, promotional material is requested, stored, shipped and billed. We have come across orders placed through an email form and then typed up again by hand.
In Germany, the Heilmittelwerbegesetz (HWG), the act on advertising for medicinal products and other healthcare products, applies to advertising for medicinal products, among other things. Section 1(1) sets out its scope, which includes advertising for medical devices and for medicinal products within the meaning of section 2 of the German Medicines Act (Arzneimittelgesetz). The HWG does not define promotional material. Its own section 2 defines healthcare professionals (Fachkreise); the term includes members of the health professions as well as institutions working in human or animal health. Under section 10(1) of the HWG, prescription-only medicinal products may be advertised only to doctors, dentists, veterinary surgeons, pharmacists and people lawfully trading in them.
We built an ordering platform for promotional material in the pharma sector and still maintain it. The manufacturer controls its material and its rules, and sales representatives order directly. The logistics provider handles ordering, shipping and accounting data in one continuous flow. The platform has been in use for more than a decade across several manufacturers. Patients and healthcare professionals can request the manufacturer's free material through ordering microsites Microsite According to the Gabler Wirtschaftslexikon, a microsite is a small website separate from the main website of the organisation providing the information.
