# Microsite

> According to the Gabler Wirtschaftslexikon, a microsite is a small website separate from the main website of the organisation providing the information.

The [Gabler Wirtschaftslexikon](https://wirtschaftslexikon.gabler.de/definition/microsite-37967), a German business dictionary, adds that microsites often serve time-limited promotional campaigns for a product. The microsites we build for pharma manufacturers have a different job: they take orders.

Each of these ordering microsites is a small, standalone web application built on the Symfony framework, set up for one manufacturer and one purpose. Patients or healthcare professionals use it to request the manufacturer's free material. Access is restricted, but no account or registration is needed. The microsites are not online shops, and we count them among our business applications.

Only promotional material, ancillary supplies and information material go out this way, never medicinal products. Patients' names and addresses are passed to shipping, not to the manufacturer, and orders flow automatically into the logistics provider's WMS.
